Depression

Depression is a mental disorder characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and worthlessness. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease a person's ability to function at work and at home. Symptoms of depression may include changes in sleep patterns, appetite changes, fatigue, difficulty concentrating or making decisions, irritability or restlessness, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, thoughts of death or suicide. Treatment for depression typically includes medication (antidepressants), psychotherapy (cognitive-behavioral therapy), lifestyle changes (exercise), and support from family and friends.
