TMJ Disorders

TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders are a group of conditions that cause pain and dysfunction in the jaw joint and muscles that control jaw movement. Symptoms may include jaw pain, facial tenderness, difficulty chewing, earache, headaches, and clicking or popping noises when opening or closing the mouth. Treatment for TMJ disorders may include physical therapy, medications to reduce inflammation or muscle spasms, and lifestyle changes such as avoiding hard foods or eating soft foods. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to correct structural problems in the jaw joint.
