Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic condition in which the body does not produce enough insulin or is unable to use it effectively. Insulin is a hormone that helps the body convert sugar, starches, and other food into energy. Without enough insulin, too much sugar (glucose) builds up in the blood and can lead to serious health complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney damage, blindness, and lower-limb amputations. Diabetes can be managed through lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise as well as medications and regular monitoring of blood glucose levels.
