How to Use Aromatherapy for Natural Relief from a Headache

Headaches can be a nuisance and can interfere with our daily lives. Fortunately, there is an easy and natural remedy that can help: aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils to promote physical and emotional well-being. Essential oils are derived from plants and herbs, and each one has its own unique healing properties. Here’s how to use aromatherapy for natural relief from a headache:

1. Choose an Essential Oil: Different essential oils have different effects on the body. Lavender oil is known for its calming properties while peppermint oil can reduce inflammation in the head area. Choose an oil that you think will work best for your headache relief needs.

2. Prepare Your Aromatherapy Session: Fill a diffuser or bowl with warm water and add a few drops of your chosen essential oil to it. Place this near your bed or in another comfortable spot where you plan to relax during your session. You may also want to light some candles or turn on some soothing music depending on what helps create the most calming environment for you personally.

3. Inhale & Exhale: Once you’re all set up, sit back and inhale deeply through your nose for four counts, then exhale through your mouth for four counts as well (or whatever breathing pattern works best for you). As you do this, focus on how the smell of the essential oil is helping soothe any tension in your head area that could be causing the headache pain in the first place!

4 . Relax & Repeat: After repeating this breathing exercise several times, close your eyes and allow yourself to fully relax while focusing on any sensations of comfort or relaxation that come over you as result of inhaling the aroma of the essential oil(s). Continue doing this until you feel like it’s time to end your session; usually 15-20 minutes should suffice!

With regular practice, aromatherapy can provide natural relief from headaches without having to resort to taking medications with unwanted side effects! So next time when a headache strikes, try using aromatherapy as an alternative form of treatment - it just might work wonders!
