Sleep Safety Guidelines for New Parents of Infants

As a new parent, it can be overwhelming to think about all of the things you need to do to keep your infant safe. One of the most important safety measures is ensuring that your baby gets enough sleep and is in a safe sleeping environment. To help you get started, here are some sleep safety guidelines for new parents of infants:

1. Place your baby on their back for every sleep time: This is the safest position for babies to sleep in as it reduces the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). It's important that you always place them on their back when they're napping or sleeping at night.

2. Use a firm mattress with a tight-fitting sheet: Make sure that you use a firm mattress and make sure it fits snugly within the crib frame with no gaps or spaces in between. Also, use only tight-fitting sheets that won't come loose during movement or if your baby kicks around while sleeping.

3. Keep soft objects and loose bedding out of the crib: Soft objects like pillows and blankets can increase the risk of suffocation, so keep them out of your baby's crib at all times. The same goes for any stuffed animals or toys; they should be kept out as well.

4. Don't put anything else in the crib: Your baby should have nothing else but themselves in their crib while sleeping; this includes bumpers, wedges, positioning devices, etc., which can also increase suffocation risks if used incorrectly or without supervision.

5. Create an ideal temperature for sleep: Room temperature should be comfortable but not too warm; aim for somewhere between 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit (18-21 degrees Celsius). It's also important to dress your baby appropriately depending on how warm/cold it is in their room so they don't overheat or become too cold during sleep time.

6. Monitor noise levels near your infant's room: Babies are sensitive to sound and noise levels can affect their ability to fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night; try not to have loud conversations near their room while they're napping/sleeping and minimize other noises like TV/music/etc., as much as possible so they can rest peacefully without interruption from outside sources
