The Basics of a Healthy Infant Diet

When it comes to ensuring that your infant is healthy, diet is one of the most important components. A balanced diet is essential for infants as it helps them grow and develop properly. While there are many different types of diets available, here are some basics of a healthy infant diet:

1. Breastmilk or Formula: Breastmilk or formula should be the primary source of nutrition for infants up to six months old. Breastmilk provides essential nutrients and antibodies that help protect babies from illness and disease, while formula can provide an alternative if breastfeeding isn’t possible.

2. Healthy Fats: Healthy fats such as olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil and nut butters can be introduced after six months old and provide important energy sources for growing babies.

3. Whole Grains: Whole grains such as oatmeal, quinoa, brown rice and barley are great sources of fiber and complex carbohydrates which can help keep babies full longer between meals.

4. Lean Proteins: Lean proteins such as chicken, fish, eggs and tofu are great sources of essential fatty acids which support brain development in infants.

5. Fruits & Vegetables: Fruits & vegetables contain important vitamins & minerals that help support growth in infants so they should be included in any healthy infant diet plan!

6. Dairy Products: Dairy products like yogurt & cheese contain calcium which helps build strong bones & teeth in children while also providing other essential nutrients like protein & Vitamin D which support overall health in babies!

7 Water: Water is an important part of any healthy diet – even for infants! It helps keep them hydrated throughout the day while also helping their bodies absorb nutrients from their food more effectively!
