How To Tell If You Have Too Much Or Too Little Iron In Your Body



Iron is an essential mineral that plays a key role in many bodily functions. It helps to transport oxygen throughout the body, supports the immune system, and helps to produce energy. However, too much or too little iron can be detrimental to your health. Here are some signs that you may have too much or too little iron in your body:

Too Much Iron
If you have too much iron in your body, it can cause a disorder known as hemochromatosis. Symptoms of this condition include fatigue, joint pain, abdominal pain, irregular heartbeat, and discolored skin (bronzing). In addition, people with hemochromatosis may also experience weight loss and diabetes-like symptoms.

Too Little Iron
If you have too little iron in your body (iron deficiency anemia), you may experience symptoms such as fatigue and weakness due to decreased oxygen levels throughout the body. You may also experience pale skin due to a lack of red blood cells which are responsible for carrying oxygen throughout the body. Other symptoms include brittle nails, headaches, dizziness and cold hands/feet due to poor circulation caused by low levels of hemoglobin (the protein that carries oxygen).
