When to See a Doctor for an Ovarian Cyst Diagnosis

If you are experiencing any signs or symptoms related to ovarian cysts, it is important to see a doctor for diagnosis and treatment. Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can develop on the ovaries, and while most of them are harmless, some can be more serious. It is important to be aware of the signs and symptoms associated with ovarian cysts so that you can get an accurate diagnosis as soon as possible.

The most common symptom of an ovarian cyst is pelvic pain or pressure. This pain may come in waves or be constant and may range from mild to severe depending on the size and location of the cyst. Other common symptoms include bloating, difficulty eating, feeling full quickly when eating, abnormal bleeding during menstruation, nausea or vomiting, frequent urination, and pain during sexual intercourse. If you experience any of these symptoms along with abdominal swelling or tenderness it is important to seek medical attention right away as these could indicate a larger problem such as a ruptured cyst or ovarian torsion (twisting).

In addition to physical examination your doctor will likely order imaging tests such as an ultrasound in order to accurately diagnose an ovarian cyst. During this test sound waves will create images which will allow your doctor to determine whether the growths are solid masses (tumors) or fluid-filled sacs (cysts). If necessary they may also take samples for further testing in order to rule out cancerous cells.

If your doctor suspects that you have an ovarian cyst they may recommend surgery depending on its size and type. Surgery is usually recommended if the cyst has grown large enough that it needs to be removed in order for your ovary(ies) to function normally again; however if it appears benign then they may simply monitor its progress with regular ultrasounds instead of removing it right away.

It is important not ignore any signs or symptoms related to ovarian cysts as they could indicate something more serious than just a harmless growth. If you experience any pelvic pain along with other concerning symptoms such as bloating, difficulty eating/feeling full quickly when eating, abnormal bleeding during menstruation etc., make sure you see a doctor for diagnosis right away so that appropriate treatment can begin if needed.
