Staying Healthy During Flu Season to Avoid Getting Pneumonia

As temperatures drop and the days get shorter, winter is officially here. And with it comes the dreaded flu season. While most of us are familiar with what to do to protect ourselves against the flu, many may not be aware that pneumonia is another serious illness associated with this time of year. To help keep you and your family healthy during this season, here are some tips on staying healthy while avoiding pneumonia:

1. Get a Flu Shot: The best way to protect yourself from both the flu and pneumonia is by getting a flu shot each year. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about which type of vaccine is right for you.

2. Wash Your Hands: Washing your hands often can help reduce your risk of getting sick from germs that cause both the flu and pneumonia. Be sure to use soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds each time you wash your hands.

3. Avoid Contact With Sick People: If someone in your home or workplace has been diagnosed with either the flu or pneumonia, try to limit contact as much as possible until they are better or have recovered completely from their illness(es). Additionally, if you’re feeling under the weather yourself, stay home until you feel better so as not to spread any germs around unnecessarily!

4. Eat Healthy Foods: Eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins can help strengthen your immune system so it’s easier for it to fight off infections like those associated with both influenza and pneumonia viruses/bacteria.

5 . Get Plenty Of Rest: It’s important to give your body enough rest during these cold winter months so that it can recharge its batteries (so-to-speak) and be ready when needed most! Make sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep each night if possible!

Following these tips can help keep you healthy during this time of year while also reducing your risk of getting either influenza or pneumonia illnesses!
