What to Expect in Each Trimester of Pregnancy

The time of pregnancy is an exciting and life-changing experience for many women. It is filled with joy, anticipation, and a lot of change. Knowing what to expect in each trimester can help make the journey more enjoyable.

First Trimester:
The first trimester of pregnancy usually lasts from weeks 1-13. During this time, the baby’s embryonic development begins and the mother’s body undergoes many changes. Some of these changes may include morning sickness, fatigue, increased urination, food cravings or aversions, breast tenderness, and mood swings. It is also common to experience some light spotting or cramping during this stage of pregnancy.

Second Trimester:
The second trimester typically lasts from weeks 14-27 and is often considered the “honeymoon period” since most pregnant women feel better during this time than they did in the first trimester. During this period, the baby continues to grow rapidly while mom may start to show her growing belly bump as well as feel her baby move for the first time! This is also when most pregnant women have their first ultrasound which can be an exciting milestone for expecting parents! Other changes that may occur during this period include increased appetite and energy levels as well as skin discoloration due to hormonal fluctuations (also known as “the mask of pregnancy”).

Third Trimester:
The third trimester usually lasts from weeks 28-40 although it can vary depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy. During this stage, your baby will continue to grow rapidly while mom may start feeling more pressure on her bladder due to her growing uterus pushing against it. This stage can also be marked by Braxton Hicks contractions which are practice contractions that prepare your body for labor but do not indicate that labor has started yet! Additionally, many pregnant women experience swelling in their hands and feet due to increased water retention caused by hormones at this point in their pregnancies.
