Living with Shingles: Coping Strategies for Managing Symptoms



Living with shingles can be a difficult and uncomfortable experience. The condition is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox, and it is characterized by an outbreak of painful blisters on the skin. While there is no cure for shingles, there are a number of strategies you can use to manage your symptoms and reduce your discomfort.

Wrap some ice cubes in a clean cloth and apply it gently to affected areas for 10-15 minutes at a time several times a day as needed for relief from discomfort.

Avoid scratching: Scratching the blisters caused by shingles can cause further irritation, spread infection, and increase healing time so it’s important not to scratch them even if they are itchy or painful! 5 . Wear loose clothing : Wearing loose fitting clothing made out of natural fibers like cotton will help keep air circulating around affected areas which can help reduce itching and irritation . 6 . Manage stress : Stress has been linked to decreased immunity , so managing stress levels during an outbreak may be beneficial in helping you recover more quickly . Consider taking up yoga , meditation , deep breathing exercises , or other relaxation techniques that could help lower stress levels naturally .
