How to Manage Chronic Sinusitis Symptoms

If you suffer from chronic sinusitis, then you know how difficult it can be to manage the symptoms. Sinusitis is a condition in which the lining of the sinuses become inflamed and swollen, leading to symptoms such as nasal congestion, facial pain and pressure, thick yellow or green nasal discharge, post-nasal drip, sore throat, and bad breath. Managing your chronic sinusitis symptoms can be a challenge but there are some steps you can take to help reduce their severity.

1. Keep your environment clean: Allergens and irritants in the air such as dust mites, pet dander, smoke or fumes can trigger or worsen your sinusitis symptoms. To minimize exposure to these triggers keep your home clean by vacuuming regularly and using an air purifier with a HEPA filter. Avoid smoking indoors and use an air filter when outside if possible.

2. Use humidifiers: Dry air can cause irritation in the nasal passages which may worsen your sinusitis symptoms so it’s important to keep them moistened with a humidifier or steam inhalation therapy at least twice daily for 15 minutes each time.

3. Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of fluids helps thin mucus secretions making it easier for them to drain from the nose and sinuses; this helps relieve congestion associated with chronic sinusitis . Aim for 8 glasses (64oz) of water per day but also consider drinking herbal teas that contain anti-inflammatory properties like ginger tea or peppermint tea as well as warm soups that contain vegetables like onions which have natural decongestant properties .

4. Use over-the-counter medications: Over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen may help reduce inflammation associated with chronic sinusitis while decongestants like pseudoephedrine may help reduce congestion . Be sure to follow package instructions carefully when taking any medication though as some can interact with other medications you may already be taking so always check with your doctor first before starting any new treatment regimen .

5. Try alternative therapies: Some people find relief from their chronic sinusitis symptoms through alternative therapies such as acupuncture , yoga , aromatherapy , massage therapy , chiropractic care , biofeedback , hypnosis , meditation , herbs/supplements etc . It’s best however to talk to your doctor first before trying any alternative therapies just in case they interact negatively with other treatments you are currently using .

By following these steps you should find some relief from your chronic sinusitis symptoms so that you can enjoy life again without worrying about constant discomfort!
