How to Treat Sinusitis at Home

If you are suffering from sinusitis, then you know how uncomfortable it can be. Sinusitis is an inflammation of the sinuses, which can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. Thankfully, there are some simple steps you can take to treat your sinusitis at home. Here are some tips for treating your sinusitis at home:

1. Drink plenty of fluids: Drinking plenty of fluids helps to thin out mucous and reduce congestion in the nasal passages. This makes it easier for your body to flush out irritants and bacteria that may be causing the infection. Try drinking warm liquids like teas or soups as they can help soothe sore throats and nasal passages.

2. Use a humidifier: Dry air can make symptoms worse, so using a humidifier in your bedroom or living room will help keep the air moist and reduce congestion in your nasal passages. Make sure to clean the humidifier regularly to prevent bacteria buildup which could lead to more infections down the line.

3. Take over-the-counter medications: There are various over-the-counter medications available that can help relieve symptoms associated with sinus infections such as pain and congestion relief medicines like ibuprofen or acetaminophen, decongestants like pseudoephedrine, antihistamines like loratadine or cetirizine, and saline solutions for rinsing out mucous from the nose cavity (nasal irrigation).

4. Use steam inhalation therapy: Steam inhalation therapy is one of the most effective treatments for relieving symptoms associated with sinus infections such as congestion due to its ability to loosen up mucous secretions allowing them to drain more easily from your nose cavity into your throat where they will be coughed up instead of remaining stuck in there causing pressure on surrounding tissues leading to pain & discomfort . To do this simply fill a bowl with hot water (not boiling) add a few drops of essential oils if desired & place face over bowl covering head with towel & inhaling steam deeply for 10 minutes 2-3 times daily until symptoms improve .

5. Get enough rest: When fighting any kind of infection it’s important that you get enough rest so that your body has time heal itself naturally . Try going bed early , taking naps during day if possible & avoiding activities that require physical exertion until feeling better .

Following these tips should provide relief from sinusitis within a few days; however if symptoms persist after 7 days then it is recommended that you see a doctor immediately as this may indicate an underlying medical condition requiring further investigation & treatment .
